PDF to Word, Without Uploading

An editable Word file with your text, headings and pictures — made in your browser. Honest about what it can and can't keep.

Convert PDF to Word

Get an editable Word file with the text, headings, bold and italics and pictures. The layout is simplified — columns and tables come out as plain text.

Select from device or drop a PDF here Processed on this device. Never uploaded.

How it works: the PDF's own text and pictures are read in your browser and rebuilt as a new Word document — nothing is uploaded. This gives you text you can edit, not an exact copy of the page layout. Letters, contracts, articles and CVs come out well; brochures, forms and big tables need more tidying.

The short version

Drop in a PDF, click Convert, open the Word file and edit. You get the text as real paragraphs, with headings, bold, italics and pictures. Nothing is uploaded — the Word file is built in this browser tab. The page layout is simplified, and this page tells you exactly how.

How to convert a PDF to Word

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above, or click "Select from device".

  2. Click "Convert to Word". Keep "Include pictures" ticked if you want the images too.

  3. Download the .docx and open it in Word, Pages or Google Docs. Check it before you use it.

Carries over

The text as editable paragraphs, headings, bold and italics, list lines, pictures, and a new page for each PDF page.

Comes out simplified

Columns become one column. Tables become lines of text. Exact fonts, colours, spacing, headers, footers and backgrounds are not kept. Form fields are not converted.

What to expect, honestly

  • Works well for letters, contracts, articles, reports and CVs — documents that are mostly text.
  • Needs tidying for brochures, magazines, forms, invoices with many boxes, and big tables.
  • Scanned PDFs have no real text. Without OCR each scanned page is put into Word as a picture; with text recognition (OCR, Premium) it becomes editable text.
  • Most online converters send your file to a server and rebuild the layout there with heavy desktop software. StayPutPDF never uploads your file, so it rebuilds the text and structure rather than a pixel-perfect copy.

Need just a few paragraphs, not the whole file? Extract Text lets you draw around the parts you need.
